Last night, led by starting pitcher Jake Fleischman, the Regents snapped their losing streak.
Jake gave an inspired performance on the hill, firing a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and striking out six.
And behind Jake, the Regents defense was flawless — committing no errors on the night and making some terrific plays, including: a leaping catch by Alex Brown in center; a “rock-solid” performance at second by Rock Cates; and lasers thrown to first by Kai Westring (who handled some tricky “Mansfield” hops) at short and John James at third.
But it wasn’t just the Regents’ defense that was on fire last night. In the first inning, Alex drew a two-out walk, Jake singled, Alex stole home, Matt Ohm smacked an RBI single, and John knocked in two more with a single — giving the Regents an early four-run lead. The boys would tack on another five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Leading the offense were John James, who went 2 for 3 with a two-RBI single in the first and Kai Westring, who knocked in two more with a single in the sixth.
