Fresh off Thursday night’s win against Janesville Parker, the Regents traveled to Warner Park last night to face the 10-5 La Follette Lancers, who were red hot, having won eight of their last nine games.
But the Lancers weren’t the only ones who were hot.
Kai Westring started things off in the first inning with a sharply-hit single — and then Alex Brown drove the point home (literally) with a towering two-run shot. Jake Fleischman and Matt Ohm singled, then Jake scored on a fielder’s choice by Simon Rosenblum-Larson. John James singled to knock in the Regents fourth run.
The Regents picked up two more runs in the top of the fifth when Will Marcus started the inning with a single and Alex Brown — who went 3 for 4 on the night — hit a ground rule double to bring Will home. Alex scored the winning run on a sacrifice by Matt Ohm.
Freshman Simon Rosenblum-Larson started for the Regents, giving up only four earned runs against the hard hitting Lancers — keeping the Regents in the game. Sophomore Joe Trier took the mound in the bottom of the 4th, retiring eight batters in a row before giving up just two hits. With one out and two on in the bottom of the seventh, Jake Fleischman came in to close — walking one and then getting a crucial strikeout with the bases loaded. The final La Follette batter hit a line drive that looked dangerous before Rock Cates made a leaping grab to end the game.–
West pitchers — (ip-h-er-bb-so) — Rosenblum-Larson (3.2-5-4-2-1), Trier (W; 2.2-2-0-0-1), Fleischman (SV; .2-0-0-1-1)
Next up: the Regents travel to Warner Park tonight to face Madison.
