On an early evening in McFarland, the Madison West Regents continued their winning ways with a solid game vs the Spartans of McFarland. With a 9 run second inning, the Regents gave starting pitcher Otto Treichel a commanding lead to work with. Hits in the second inning by Donovan O’Flahrity, John Frehner, Owen Christenson to name a few, helped with the run barrage. Many players had many hits, and I arrived late, so my details will be less detailed with this one folks. That and I took time to sit back and enjoy the game.
A number of players got their varsity feet wet in the field, including Forrest Mackay and Quinn Burgess. David Grunder came on in relief, and the later innings were highlighted by more hits, and lowlighted by Charlie Met being inadvertently trampled by a McFarland runner. Charlie left the game in reasonably good spirits despite a knock to the noggin. He’s been evaluated by medical staff and is listed as day to day. Defensive gems were turned in by Tommy Hill with a diving snare in LF with the bases loaded that saved a number of runs, along with Forrest Mackay’s diving stop of a grounder to save extra bases. West and McFarland traded caught line drives, hit by O’Flahrity, and one caught by 2B John Frehner. O’Flahrity and Hill flirted with dingers and ended up with doubles in the top of the 5th. The State Journal counted them both as home runs. Final score was Regents 14, Spartans 3 in a run-rule shortened 5 inning game. Regents improve to 4-1, McFarland dips to 0-5.
The next game is tomorrow, now at 2PM vs LaFollette with a venue change back to Mansfield. Memorial has a game there at 11:00 prior to our game, just FYI.
Keep on coming out fans, your cheers keep the boys playing at their best.
